The victim of an apparent homicide in southwest Atlanta was identified Sunday as the ex-fiancé of local newsmaker Angela Simmons.
Sutton Tennyson, 37, was shot and killed inside a garage shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday, Atlanta police said.
Tennyson also had a child with Simmons, who is the daughter of Rev. Run, one of the founding members of legendary hip-hop group Run–DMC.
The victim was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds inside the open garage on Jewel Drive, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty said in a statement.
A preliminary investigation, police said, suggests that Tennyson was talking in the driveway with another man when “the conversation escalated” and the man shot Tennyson multiple times.
The man left the scene in a car, and the shooting is under investigation.
Angela Simmons’ ex fiancé and son’s father, Sutton Tennyson, has passed away. According TSR,”the father of Angela Simmons’ child was shot and killed today at his home.”
Angela and Sutton began dating in later 2015 and welcomed their baby, Sutton Jr., in September 2016. In late 2017, Simmons announced in an Instagram post that she and her son’s father had called off their engagement.
“I just got to a place where I felt like I wasn’t happy, and I tried, and I tried, and I tried and I wanted it to work because the last thing I wanted to do was not be together with the person I had my child with,” she said in a confessional for the season 4 premiere of WEtv’s Growing Up Hip-Hop. “God had another plan for me.”
